It is well known that outside the city people tend to be healthier, their hair and skin look better, and overall they feel better. This is no coincidence, but rather the result of air pollution in cities.

Urban pollution: what it is and how it happens

In our modern cities, urban pollution has become a major issue that affects not only the environment but also our everyday health. But what causes this type of pollution?
Especially those related to human activity:

  • motor vehicles
  • industries
  • building heating
  • domestic activities

Fine particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides, and other air pollutants accumulate, often resulting in poor air quality in our urban centers.

Air quality and health

The effects of air pollution on health are well documented. Breathing polluted air can cause respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems, and has been linked to a reduction in life expectancy. Children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable. Studies show that living in a heavily polluted urban environment can increase the risk of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and even certain types of cancer!

Città inquinata

Life in cities is getting worse

Beyond health problems, air pollution also affects quality of life. In fact, it contributes to:

  • building deterioration
  • loss of urban biodiversity
  • reduction in the comfort of city dwellers

Rapid urbanization, without adequate attention to air quality management, has worsened these challenges, making the need for innovative solutions urgent.

Lione per ridurre emissioni e inquinamento

Lyon and its "Green" goal

In the face of this alarming situation, it is essential to adopt measures to improve air quality in our cities.

This involves the development of public policies that promote emission reductions, encourage the use of public transport, and support the adoption of renewable energy.

Between 2019 and 2022, the Lyon metropolitan area reduced pollution levels. Speed reductions, more cycling lanes, and building insulation are part of the plan.

The road ahead, however, is still long: less efficient combustion-based heating systems still need to be replaced, and the phase-out of diesel fuel has yet to be completed.

“Fuel oil, gasoline, and fossil gas are forms of energy we must move away from if we want to achieve our climate goals. These three energy sources account for the majority of carbon emissions in the ‘energy and fuels’ sector of the Lyon Metropolitan Area. We have a plan to phase out their use by the time climate neutrality is achieved.” Bruno Bernard, President of the Lyon Metropolitan Area.

The institutional route is not the only one: it is also possible to act at a local level, particularly in our homes, offices, and work environments.

For you who live in city...

At Aura System, we are aware of the challenges posed by urban pollution, especially in work environments.
For this reason, we have developed a natural air filtration system specifically designed to improve air quality in offices located in urban areas.
Our innovative technology uses a natural biofilter that we have developed and patented to remove pollutants from indoor air, thereby creating a healthier and more livable environment.

Investing in office air quality means not only protecting your health and that of your employees, but also contributing to a more pleasant and productive work environment.
